Meal Plan Monday

So last week, just like my weekly goals; my menu plan went belly up :( Even though I was not feeling well, my family still needed to eat; but I was in no mood to cook. Unfortunately we ended up eating out, having some prepackaged frozen food, and hubby did help out and cook on baby boy's birthday. I think that if I start freezer cooking it would help out a lot! I made some homemade pizza dough last week to use in the future. But I need to make some dinner meals. Baby steps! I am going to look into some meals to prepare in advance as well as some snacks. I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, this is what is on our dinner menu for the week:

Sunday:  Roasted Chicken, Stuffing, Yams, Mixed Greens

Monday: Roasted Chicken, Stuffing, Yams, Mixed Greens

Tuesday: Baked Pork Chops, Mashed Potatoes, Green Peas

Wednesday: Baked Pork Chops, Mashed Potatoes, Green Peas

Thursday: Spaghetti w/meat sauce & Salad

Friday: Spaghetti w/meat sauce & Salad

Saturday: Chicken Stir Fry, Loaded Baked Potatoes

Freezer Cooking: Belgian Waffles

What's on your menu this week? I'd love to know! Have you tried freezer cooking? If so, how is it for you? Leave a comment below!

Weekly Goals for February 26 - March 3, 2012

Good Morning!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! Are you ready to start this new week with fresh goals? I am! Last week was almost a total bust because I wasn't feeling well, so I'm hoping this week will be better! At church we are studying the book of Ecclesiastes. Last week we studied chapter 7, and verse 8 says, "Finishing is better than starting." Wow, what a convicting verse for me! Sunday's Inspirational Scripture

Philippians 4:4 - 8 (NLT)

"Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again - rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

Have a blessed Sunday!!

Saturday's Song

This Saturday's Song is a little different from the others. No video or sound, just lyrics. This is a song that has been on my heart all month. A song that I learned and sang as a little girl, and being that I attended a HBCU, sang very often as a teenager and young adult. I haven't sang this publicly in a while, but I can still hear the organ playing this song in my mind. Here are the words:

Lift Every Voice And Sing

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty
Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last, Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way,
Thou who hast by Thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.

by James Weldon Johnson and R. Rosamond Johnson

This song symbolizes the struggles that we have have gone through, the victories we have accomplished, and the work that still needs to be done. Let's not forget! We cannot become complacent or apathetic. Let's strive to do more, keep pushing for progress, and keep trusting God to lead, guide and protect us.

Enjoy your weekend!

Winter?!?!

Happy Friday everyone!

One of my goals this year is to complete (4) 5k run/walks. I haven't completed one yet this year.........hopefully I will be able to accomplish this goal. But one of the things holding me back is training. I haven't been motivated to train (I don't have a treadmill) and the days that I have thought about it, it's been too cold. But I really need to get out and take advantage of this winter's weather. We have had a very mild winter here in Virginia! So yesterday I decided to stop procrastinating and get out and enjoy the 70 degree weather that we had. I live near the beach and that's where I like to walk/jog. This is the view that greeted me yesterday!

Simply beautiful! It's supposed to be 80 degrees today, and then some bad storms in the afternoon. After that, a week of 50 degree weather. (That's nice for winter, but not my kind of outdoor weather!) I need to pry myself off of this computer and get out again, before it's too late!

Enjoy the start of your weekend!!!!

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!!!!

Well, today is baby boy's 11th birthday! I know, I know, some would say, he's not a baby anymore! But he will always be my baby. Even though he is almost tall enough to look me straight in the eyes, he still my baby boy! Lol! And what a fine boy he is growing up to be! He is a wonderful, caring, smart, athletic and funny boy that has had my heart since day 1! So Happy Birthday Baby Boy, I hope that you have a wonderfully blessed year ahead!  XOXOX

I'm Back!!!!

Hi everyone!! I'm sorry I've been gone the past couple of days. I have been under the weather, but I'm feeling a little better today! To me it seems like I've been gone for a week, but it has only been a couple of days. I've missed blogging and updating everyone about what's been going on.

So this week is so not what I had planned it to be, but I still have a few days left to get some things done. I will try! I would name today Anti-Procrastination Day, as every Thursday has been; but for me it is a "Get Something Accomplished Day!" Lol! Well, so far today I have been able to do a load of laundry, load and run the dishwasher, schedule a donation pickup, clean out the pantry a little and fill three shopping bags for the food bank.

I plan to train for the 5k, drop off the foodbank donation, do another load of laundry, gather some old magazines to give away(someone is requesting them on freecycle), and make some pizza dough to freeze for later use, and celebrate baby boy's birthday. I hope my plans are not too ambitious, but I think I can get it done..........

Do you have any plans for today? Just do it! Leave a comment and let me know what you were able to accomplish, it will help to keep me motivated!!!!

I hope you have a productive day!!! :-)

Keisha

******Update: ******
Train for 5k
Drop off foodbank donation
Load of laundry
Make 2 batches of pizza dough
Celebrate baby boy's birthday (Make birthday cake, do something fun)
Make a loaf of buttermilk bread

I'm so happy that I was able to get these things done without feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I still have so much to do to catch up for this week.  I still on the to do list is to check my email to see if the freecycle person still wants some magazines. If so, then bye bye clutter!! :)

What were you able to do today? Leave a comment below!

Sunday's Inspirational Scripture

Matthew 6:27,31-33 (NLT)

"Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? So don't worry about these things, saying,"What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need."

Have a blessed week! :)

Saturday's Song #2

This song is from the Preacher's Wife soundtrack, but this video shows her perfoming it live. The video is grainy but she still sounds great! I remember singing this song as a young girl growing up in church, and then Whitney sang it in the Preacher's Wife movie. It's funny how songs come back to your memory even when you haven't been thinking about them for a while. This song was heavy on my heart this past summer after my Mom passed away. I would sing it every morning. Beautiful lyrics for distressed, broken or grieving hearts. I hope you enjoy.

Saturday's Song #1

This Saturday we will have two songs. This morning I was trying to decide what song I would post today being that there wasn't a particular song that stayed on my heart this week. While watching the funeral of Whitney Houston, I decided to post a couple (of the many!) of her songs that I have enjoyed. I remember as a young girl listening to her voice sing -- "I believe the children are the future...." As a teenager listening to her Bodyguard soundtrack and singing along to the cassette tape,"I have nothing, nothing, nothing; if I don't have you." Then later on as a college student singing along with the Preacher's Wife soundtrack. I love this song from the Disney movie The Prince of Egypt!
"Who knows what miracles you can achieve when you believe!"

Luke 1:37 "For nothing is impossible with God." (NLT)

So those of you who know me, know that I love to plan; but sometimes a lot of times my follow through doesn't happen. Recently, I've been encouraged by Crystal over at Money Saving Mom and other bloggers to set little goals that work towards your big picture goals. This year I plan to successfully follow through on the goals that I have set for 2012. I hope that this blog will help to hold me accountable to the goals and plans that I have.

So last week was my first week, and I did okay. Not great, but I did make some progress. Better progress than if I hadn't posted my goals online, lol! I kept thinking in the back of my head, I have to post about my progress so let's get this done! You can check out last week's goals and progress here. They are very similar to this week's goals. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, so I will try to complete each goal for at least 21 days then kick it up a notch or move on to my next challenge!

Do you have any goals for this week that you would like to share? If so, leave a comment below, I'd love to hear about them!

I'll be checking in each week to let you know how my weekly goals turned out and to give you the new goals for each week. So check back, better yet, follow me.............(click over on the right to do so, it's easy!!! ------>)

My Shopping Trip Today

My shopping trip today didn't go as planned :( Today I decided I would try to stick with a $50 per week grocery budget.  So I made a list, got my coupons together and was ready to brave the stores! But first, I wanted to stop by Bath & Body Works to pick up some spray that I was running out of since they were having the Valentine's Day party.  Well they raised the price of the spray, and I think that they are having a sale to get spray free starting tomorrow, so I didn't get it.  But then baby boy wanted to go to Gamestop, and baby girl wanted to go to Claire's and Aeropostale so we ended up walking around the mall area.
We went to Target and purchased a few things. But as I was walking out of the store I noticed that something rang up incorrectly, so I had to go to customer service to get that corrected.  After that delay we noticed that it started to SNOW.........heavily!! So we cleaned off the car and headed to Walmart (I was determined to get this shopping done!) Walmart was packed, but I trudged on.  After picking up the second item on the list, they made an announcement that the computers are down and they are only doing cash transactions! Uggghhhh!! So we put the items back and headed back out to the car. We drove to Farm Fresh to pick up the remaining items. So here is the breakdown:

Target
1 Baked Lays (my guilty pleasure!)
2 Godiva Milk Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Bars (for teacher's Valentines Day present)
1 Yes to Carrots Body Butter 1oz. (free after coupon)
1 Heart Shaped Bowl (something cute to carry treats in for Ladies Bible Study)
Total: $8.61

Farm Fresh
1 Box of Cookie Crisp Cereal
1 Box of Trix Cereal
2 Boxes Frosted Toast Crunch Cereal
1 Gallon of Milk
Total: $11.29
**But I received a coupon for $2.00 off my next shopping trip and a coupon for a free gallon of milk. So together that's a value of $5.79.**

** I received the bananas for free from my neighbor **

So all in all today I spent $19.90. Not bad, but not great. I'm trying to get back into the swing of couponing. I have $30.10 to complete my shopping for the week. I'll keep you posted! But I did learn two very important lessons today: 1) Get up and get out early -- If I had gone out earlier I would not have been out in the snow and could have completed my shopping at Walmart; and 2) Make sure to check your receipt before you leave the store -- I saved myself $1.00 and a trip back to the store to correct the problem.

Did you score any great deals this weekend? Let me know, I'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment below.

Anti-Procrastination Day!!

Good Morning! I'm declaring today anti-procrastination day! What have you been putting off that you really need to do? A phone call? An email? Cleaning out the car? Laundry? Cleaning out the fridge? Whether it's a 5 minute task or a 30 minute task, take the time today to just get it done! After you're finished you will feel so relieved and accomplished! So what are you going to do today? Leave a comment below to either let me know what you plan to do, or what you were able to cross off your to-do list today. I'd love to hear from you! I'll share later today what I was able to do.

Keisha

Update:

Were you able to get anything done? I hope so! Today was a busy day for me, but I was able to complete a few of the things that have been taunting my peace! Today I:
1) Completed 3 flyers for the PTA
2) Recycled 31 magazines!

(I'm trying to clear out some clutter! I keep seeing commercials for the show Hoarders and I think, it had to start somewhere. What if it started with a stack of papers or magazines! So my old magazines are outta here. I have some more to get rid of, but that was a start. I'm afraid to watch an entire episode of Hoarders; I think that would definitely scare me into minimalism!)

What were you able to accomplish. Leave a comment below :)

Last week the sales were excellent, but I haven't been doing as much couponing as I used to or as I should :( and I missed out on those deals. I have to organize my coupons SOON and get back into the savings game! If you would like to know what's on sale and the coupon match ups for Farm Fresh this week head on over to The Coupon Consultant for a detailed listing.

Meal Plan Monday

These are our meals for the week:

Sunday: Superbowl Party at our friend's house
Monday: Baked Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, String Beans
Tuesday: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread
Wednesday: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread
Thursday: Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs, Rice, Broccolli
Friday: Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs, Rice, Broccolli
Saturday: Franks and Beans

I make my meal plan a little different from the way most people do. I usually try to cook on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and something quick on Saturdays. On Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays we have leftovers. A lot of families don't like to eat leftovers, but this works for us. I don't really enjoy cooking dinner every night. So cooking every other day is manageable. I can never get a meal on the table in 30 minutes, like Rachel Ray, unless I'm cooking spaghetti! I like cooking breakfast and baking, I don't know what it is; but dinner is just not my thing. Maybe if I start freezer cooking, then we can have something different every night. We'll see........

What's on your menu this week? Leave a comment below. I'd love to hear from you!

***** Update: So I believe I could have accomplished more if I had effectively managed my time. I guess that's the whole point of accomplishing your goals.  I will definitely be more intentional about time management this week!!! *****

Do you have any goals for this week that you would like to share? If so, leave a comment below, I'd love to hear about them!

I'll be checking in each week to let you know how my weekly goals turned out and to give you the new goals for each week. So check back, better yet, follow me.............

Free Burger King Onion Rings This Weekend!

If you're out and about and want a little snack, stop by your local Burger King today and tomorrow to pick up a free value size of their new onion rings! You can head over to their facebook page for more information; and even like them for a chance to win a $10 BK Crown Card.

I would recommend calling your restaurant before going to make sure they are participating.

The fine print: While supplies last. One value sized onion rings per person per visit at participating restaurants. Not valid during breakfast hours.

Super Bowl XLVI

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday! Are you excited? Who are you routing for? I must admit, I am not a big football fan. About two years ago my husband decided that everyone in our household needed to choose our teams and stick with them. Hubby was born in Rochester, NY so he chose the Buffalo Bills, baby boy chose the New England Patriots, baby girl chose the Miami Dolphins and I really didn't care to choose since I don't watch. But Hubby insisted........and since I was born and raised in Long Island, NY I had to stay loyal to my roots. So my team is, drum roll please.............the NY Giants!

Like I said, I don't watch football, I may catch a great play or two in passing or while cooking; but I'm not one to sit down and watch an entire game. To be honest, the other day I was talking to one of my friends from my community group and he asked me who I wanted to win. I told him that I was a Giants fan and he said he wasn't too interested in the Super Bowl game because his team wasn't playing; but he is routing for Eli Manning. Embarrassingly, I was stumped because I couldn't remember who Eli played for (that is sooo bad isn't it! Lol!)

Well anyway, I'll be watching semi-watching the game tomorrow, maybe watching more of the commercials and the halftime show.

But it's a head-to-head match up between my team and baby boy's team, tomorrow at 6:30 pm!

vs.

We'll see who wins!!
